One of the most important characteristics of today's private law is that it increasingly flows from different sources: Next to national legislation and case law, it is also shaped by European and supranational sources and rapidly becoming a mixture of differently oriented rules and principles. This development can be described as one from coherence to fragmentation. The aim of the new book is to consider how this important shift has worked out in different subfields of the law like in contract and property law, in competition, insurance, marketing and private international law as well as in the law of intellectual property. This cross-disciplinary approach shows how pervasive legal fragmentation has become, and points out how to remedy the adverse effects it brings with it. The volume is therefore indispensable for anyone interested in how Europeanisation affects national private laws.

Hauptbeschreibung European law (EC law and EEA law) was suddenly confronted with the great global crisis of the financial markets in the autumn of 2008 in an intensity never experienced before. How flexible the rules on the internal market of the European Union and on the European Economic Area are shaped in order to cope with the challenges of such an era of crisis is the topic of this volume. Its seven contributions analyse the impact of the crisis on the free movement of capital, the free movement of services, the rules on competition and the development of the relation between N

This volume of essays casts light on the shape and future direction of the EU in the wake of the Lisbon Treaty and highlights the incomplete nature of the reforms. Contributors analyse some of the most innovative and most controversial aspects of the Treaty, such as the role and nature of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the relationship between the EU and the European Court of Human Rights. In addition, they reflect on the ongoing economic and financial crisis in the Euro area, which has forced the EU Member States to re-open negotiations and update a number of aspects of the Lisbon 'settlement'. Together, the essays provide a variety of insights into some of the most crucial innovations introduced by the Lisbon Treaty and in the context of the adoption of the new European Financial Stability Mechanism.

In this short but authoritative book, the nature and purpose of the European Constitution are explained by someone involved in its preparation. The author discusses how it was drafted, and tackles some much debated questions: whether it promises any enhancement of democracy in the EU, whether it implies that the EU is becoming a superstate, and whether it will strengthen the principle of subsidiarity and the protection of human rights.

'Mercenaries', 'cheats', 'destroying the soul of (English) football', 'destroying the link between football clubs and their supporters': foreign football players have been accused of being at the origin of all the ills of contemporary football. How true is this? Foreign players and football supporters: The Old Firm, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain is the first academic book to look at supporters' reactions to the increase in the number of foreign players in the very clubs they support week in week out. Politics of the European Union in Bosnia-Herzegovina: Between Conflict and Democracy, by Doga Ulas Eralp, evaluates the European Union's ability to transform the escalating political tensions at a period where the post-conflict balance of the Dayton Peace Agreement is turning increasingly unsustainable. The book questions whether reforms integral to the European Union membership process, along with existing European crisis management mechanisms, can liberate Bosnian politics from the helm of ethno-nationalism and plant the seeds for a
